This is the slogan of a new campaign for equality.
The corona crisis affects us all, it doesn’t matter where we came from, but it does not affect everyone equally. Women are often on the front line during this challenging time to ensure that everything is kept going. Because of the traditional role model, women play an important role in nursing, teaching, and carrying a family. Unfortunately, these jobs are often underpaid or are not paid at all, also in this crisis was shown. Clapping or flowers as a demonstration of gratitude is a nice idea, but it is not enough – in any case, a new feminist initiative is now campaigning with the hashtag #stattblumen (instead of flowers). This has a clear goal: “We want equal rights.”
#stattblumen: New campaign for equality
Sally Lisa Starken is the vice-chair of the Social Democratic Women’s Association.
#stattblumen appeal launched on May 18th wants to draw attention to these structural injustices and demands more equality. The initiators of this campaign are Sally Lisa Starken, deputy federal chairwoman of the SPD-Frauen (AsF), and Cordelia Röders-Arnold from the start-up Einhorn.
The focus of the campaign is equality instead of flowers! For a long time, society has exchanged flowers out of gratitude. Six specific topics were touched. Instead of flowers, fair and appreciative salaries, a fair distribution of employment and care work, equal participation, a coupling of all aid measures with gender equality measures. Instead of flowers, a right to protection against violence, and sexual self-determination is required.
“Flowers are beautiful, but you can’t pay rent with them.”

Cordelia Röders-Arnold initiated the #stattblumen campaign.
To whom is the appeal addressed?
The #stattblumen is an appeal that, like a petition, can be signed online. The first 13 supporters come from very different areas of society, were involved politicians, scientists, but also bloggers. And now, over 8,000 people are said to have already signed up the appeal. It is aimed at Angela Merkel, the Federal Minister for Family Affairs Franziska Giffey, the Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier, the Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil, the Minister of Health Jens Spahn and the Minister of Finance Olaf Scholz.
If you want to sign for the appeal and have more information, you can go on the official website. The names of all supporters are collected here. Under the hashtag #stattblumen, you can also tell on Twitter and Instagram what you want instead of flowers for more equality.
